Nestled in the heart of the Lake Lincolndale community, the origins of this vibrant neighborhood trace back to the early 1930s. Developers constructed a dam, creating a 20-acre lake that would become the cornerstone of the area, and founded the original clubhouse. Between 1934 and 1936, the Lake Lincolndale community took shape, with homes built around the newly-formed lake and the Lake Lincolndale Civic Association (LLCA) established to serve as the hub for community activities.
From 1937 to 1939, the neighborhood began to attract attention as developers began selling lots, with advertisements placed in prominent New York papers like *The New York Post* and *The Daily Mirror*. One of the first homes built in the area, known as "Trailblazer," still stands near the clubhouse parking lot. During this time, the LLCA rebranded as the Lake Lincolndale Property Owners' Association (LLPOA), and the Ladies Auxiliary was founded. The Ladies Auxiliary has remained a strong presence in the community, boasting more than 30 active members today.
The 1940s were marked by steady growth as the LLPOA members worked tirelessly to improve their community, successfully advocating for road repairs and the paving of Lovell Street. A day camp for local children was established in 1948-49 to serve the primarily seasonal residents, and in 1950-51, an athletic field was purchased, alongside the widening of the beach area.
In the early 1950s, the LLPOA expanded its facilities, with the clubhouse undergoing major renovations to accommodate growing community needs. A new kitchen was installed, and Lovell Street was further improved through persistent efforts. The Ladies Auxiliary played an important role, equipping both the upstairs and downstairs kitchens with modern appliances, such as a 10-burner stove and refrigerator in 1955, as well as serving wagons for events.
By the 1960s, Lake Lincolndale had transitioned from a seasonal to a year-round community. In 1960, repairs were made to the dam, ensuring the lake's longevity. The following years saw the installation of a new ceiling and heating system in the clubhouse, along with further repairs and upgrades to its facilities. The community also introduced a nursery school in 1968, a Teen Canteen in 1970, and a family-friendly Bicentennial picnic in 1976, which included the burial of a time capsule.
In the 1980s, the LLPOA initiated several major improvements, including the installation of dry hydrants by the Somers Fire District, a newly painted clubhouse, and a revamped snack bar. The Men's Club contributed by installing a horseshoe pit, and the ongoing maintenance of the dam and parking lot took priority. The community also saw the installation of a new septic system and the construction of a new play gym for children.
The late 2000s brought further progress, including the installation of a modern oak floor in the clubhouse, vertical blinds funded by the Ladies Auxiliary, and continued work on the lake. In 2014, the lake received an environmental boost with the installation of a state-of-the-art aeration system, funded by a grant from Toyota's Together Green environmental program and facilitated by the Bedford Audubon Society.
Most recently, in 2018, the clubhouse underwent a complete interior renovation, including the addition of modern, accessible bathrooms, ensuring the space remains a welcoming and functional center for the community.
Today, the Lake Lincolndale Property Owners’ Association remains a cornerstone of this historic community, carrying forward a legacy of collaboration, care, and commitment to preserving the beauty and functionality of the lake and its surroundings for generations to come.
